Walter and Buchmüller research leads

Cecilia Walter’s 1895 obituary connects the German Walter–Buchmüller family to her daughter Rosa Widmer in Missouri. Rosa’s conflicting birth dates still need resolving. The pins mark town centers, not homes or churches.

German records reviewed; American family link supported by Cecilia’s obituary.

Anna Rosa Walter was born on June 27, 1842, and baptized on June 29 in the Catholic register duplicate, daughter of Franz Walter and Cäcilia. The clearer 1841 entry for the same parents supports Buchmüller as Cäcilia’s maiden name. Cecilia’s 1895 obituary names Mrs. Rosa Widmer of Salisbury, Missouri, as her daughter. It says the family lived in Philippsburg until leaving in fall 1853 and reached Highland in spring 1854. Rosa’s conflicting birth dates and the passenger-list age of 10 remain unresolved.

29. Östringen, Germany

Bange

German records reviewed; American family link supported by Cecilia’s obituary.

The 1811 Östringen act records Cecilia Buchmüller born and baptized on January 26, with parents Joseph Buchmüller and Gertraud née Kimling. A certified extract copied into the Philippsburg register places Cäcilia Buchmüller’s marriage to Franz Walter at Östringen on November 22, 1832. Cecilia Walter’s 1895 obituary gives the same January 26, 1811 birth date and Östringen birthplace, identifies her as née Buchmiller, and names Rosa Widmer as her daughter. These matching details strongly support the connection to the American family.

December 8, 1832 is the copy-certification date, not the wedding date. The original Östringen marriage book has not been inspected.
