They had attended a dance at Glasgow on Wednesday evening, with Emmet Summers, John Sutter and E. E. Duckett also named.

The paper gives no description of the music, the journey or the dance itself. Its little guest list is still worth keeping: a glimpse of the young Rolings’ social circle and an evening out in a neighboring town.

Source: Salisbury Press-Spectator, May 26, 1916, page 4, “Local News” dance notice. In July 1912, Mrs. J. F. Roling returned from two weeks with relatives in Quincy, Illinois. Her niece, Carrie Roling, came home with her for a visit of several weeks.

Glasgow appears repeatedly. In November 1916, Amelia Labus visited Flora Roling, while a neighboring notice reported that Mrs. Ben Roling had spent the weekend in Glasgow with her parents. In April 1918, the paper named those parents as Mr. and Mrs. Barney Korte. That same issue sent Joe Roling off for a week’s visit in Iowa and Quincy.

Flora and Agnes had a longer outing in 1922. They returned from two weeks with friends in St. Louis and reported a delightful visit. A later Bange notice adds another destination: after visiting her parents in Salisbury in August 1936, Betty Bange planned to spend the following week in Dallas attending the Centennial.

Sources: Salisbury Press-Spectator, July 5, 1912, p. 1; April 26, 1918, p. 5; October 27, 1922, p. 5; August 14, 1936, p. 5. Salisbury Democrat, November 24, 1916, p. 5.
