World map and family journeys

The combined family world map, with older ship leads, Delia’s Teutonic journey, Peter’s Carmania arrival, Thomas’s Lusitania crossing and Montana places, and the Widmer move west. Lines join locations schematically, not exact travel tracks.

Hover over a pin or a dashed port connection to see the place, people and known dates. On a phone, tap a pin to jump to its location and evidence below. You can also use Tab and Enter.

Filled circles: documented or reported places. Open circles: suspected or unverified family links. Shared places carry several colors.

Open diamonds: ports in passenger-list leads. Dashed connections link the departure and arrival ports named in those records. The voyages are recorded, but the passengers have not been proved to be our ancestors. These lines are schematic connections, not the ships’ actual courses. The blue line shows Delia’s petition-reported journey; the purple line shows Thomas’s 1912 crossing. Peter has an arrival marker only. The green dotted connector links Widmer residences, not a known travel route. Read each journey’s evidence below.

Crossings, family places and a move west

Peter’s arrival · Delia’s crossing · Thomas’s crossing · Kilmovee · Montana places · The Widmer move

Blue dotted line: Delia’s reported ship journey. Purple dashed line: Thomas’s 1912 crossing, supported by his manifest and petition. Green dotted connector: Widmer residences at two dates, not a known travel route. The extra blue ring at New York marks Peter’s documented arrival only. These are relatives’ records; none establishes Michael Morrison’s own crossing. The older brown and green dashed ship leads retain their separate identity qualifications.

Peter: New York, November 11, 1906

Peter Morrisroe’s own naturalization file connects him with the arrival name Peter Beirne on Carmania at New York on November 11, 1906. The reason for the surname difference is not established. No departure port or sailing date is asserted here, so this is an arrival marker, not a drawn transatlantic route.

Peter’s petition · declaration and arrival certificate · Carmania passenger list, row 25.

Delia: Queenstown to New York, 1899

Delia Morrisroe’s own 1928 petition reports departure from Queenstown in March 1899, with the day left blank, and arrival at New York on April 6, 1899 aboard Teutonic. The blue connection joins approximate city-level endpoints; it is not the vessel’s actual course. This is Delia’s journey, not Peter’s or Michael’s.

Delia’s naturalization petition, December 7, 1928.

Thomas: Queenstown to New York, June 9–15, 1912

Thomas Morrisroe boarded Lusitania at Queenstown on June 9, 1912 and arrived at New York on June 15. The two-page passenger list names his father Pat in Kilmovee, County Mayo, and says Thomas was joining his brother John in New York. His own later Montana petition gives the same ship and arrival date. The map joins the recorded ports, not the ship’s exact course. It does not show Michael Morrison’s crossing.

Read Thomas’s original records

Passenger list, row 21, departure and Irish family · Continuation, arrival and brother John · Thomas’s own Montana petition, filed May 9, 1930. The evidence strongly links the Irish and Montana records for Thomas, but conflicting birth dates and the wider Irish-American family identification remain qualified. These record images may require Ancestry access.

32. Kilmovee, County Mayo, Ireland

Parish-level family record location, not an exact home. Thomas’s 1912 passenger list gives Kilmovee as his last residence and birthplace, and places his father Pat at Raherolish, Kilmovee, County Mayo; the townland spelling remains qualified. This is a useful place to begin the family story, while the wider Irish-American identification remains qualified. It is not a confirmed birthplace for Michael Morrison.

Evidence and map precision

Lusitania manifest, first page · Continuation · Family evidence and conflicts. The pin uses the official Kilmovee civil-parish centrepoint (53.8746, −8.73973) for orientation. It does not identify Raherolish, a house, or a church.

Thomas in Montana: two places, not a traced route

33. Great Falls: Thomas’s own petition reports that he married Mary here on February 11, 1921. This is a later petition’s statement; the marriage register itself is not the source shown here.

34. Butte / Silver Bow County: the petition gives his residence as Butte when filed in 1930 and reports residence in the state and county since May 10, 1922. The city pin does not turn that county-level start date into an exact Butte arrival day. No line connects New York, Great Falls and Butte: his intermediate stops, transport and travel dates are not established.

Sources and location precision

Thomas’s own petition. Approximate city points: Great Falls and Butte, not homes or a wedding venue.

John and Mary Widmer: St. Louis to Seattle

The correlated family appears in the April 22, 1910 St. Louis census and in the 1914 Seattle city directory. The Seattle directory lists John with Mary and Rose at the same address; Alphonse appears there in 1915. These records narrow the move to after the 1910 enumeration and by the 1914 listing. They do not establish an exact arrival day, intermediate stops, simultaneous travel by every child, or whether they took a train or sailed. The dotted connector shows the residence change only.

1910 census, St. Louis, ED 213, sheet 11B · Polk’s Seattle directory, 1914, page 1765 · 1915 directory, page 1602.

Not plotted as a confirmed journey: an Arabic passenger named John Morris, aged 21, arriving November 8, 1909, is a candidate for John Morrisroe. The passenger names an uncle Peter Beirne, not a brother. The identification remains qualified; no confirmed John Morrisroe route is claimed.

  • Agnes · 1848 — Bremen → New Orleans; arrival 27 November 1848. Joh. Heinr. Bickel: possible family match, unproved.
  • John Curtis · 1854 — Le Havre → New Orleans; arrival 15 January 1854. Franz and Cecilia Walter with eight children: strong candidate family group, not fully proved.
  • Ottilie · 1860 — Bremen → New York; arrival 11 June 1860. Anna Budde: possible family match, unproved.

Departure dates are not established. Curves distinguish recorded endpoints; they are not reconstructed sailing tracks. Brown: Roling branch leads. Green: Bange/Walter lead.

Port leads: 22. New York · 23. New Orleans · 24. Bremen · 30. Le Havre. Family identifications retain the qualifications above.

Ireland is shaded for the Morrison branch. The County Mayo family connection is now strongly probable, while Michael’s exact birth identification remains qualified; read the evidence and conflicts. The closer maps below show the places more clearly.

Flat Mercator maps use the same horizontal and vertical scale; their proportions are not stretched to fit the page. Mercator enlarges high latitudes, especially in the world overview. Town-center positions are approximate, not home or building locations. Modern country and state boundaries are for orientation, not historical borders. Short town-label leader lines are not travel routes. Dashed port connections show recorded endpoints only, not reconstructed ship tracks. Port pins are city-level approximations, not exact docks.
